I won the Volcom VQS in Hossegor

It’s with great joy that I can announce that I won the European Volcom VQS Contest in Hossegor, which went down last Wednesday. Actually I wasn’t even scheduled to compete, but as the event got closer its start they realized that they still had a few free spots for participants and luckily, I got one of them.

I started in the U16 category, which featured kids from all over Europe. My first heat was pretty good, but the waves were small. After a stand by of two hours I was told that I made it into the semifinal, which was held on the following day.

Luckily the waves on the day of the semifinal were a lot better and the wind smoothed down as well – perfect conditions for the first heats. There were a lot of amazing surfers on this day, but I was able to get a good wave right on the start which send me right into the final.

The final went even better – I scored a lot of important points with a radical backside turn, but I was aware that I needed a second good wave for the victory. And what can I say – it came. I made a beautiful cutback, followed by a frontside reversed and in the end, this secured the trophy.

This victory means a lot to me and I am proud to call it my best performance. The prize was amazing as well: I was given a new board and 800 euros!

Sieg beim Volcom VQS in Hossegor

Mit Freude kann ich euch berichten, dass ich am Mittwoch den europäischen Volcom VQS-Contest in Hossegor gewonnen habe. Eigentlich hätte ich gar nicht starten sollen, doch kurz vor Beginn hatte sich herausgestellt, dass es noch freie Plätze für Wildcards gab und zum Glück bekam ich eine.

Ich startete in der Unter-16-Kategorie, wo Kids aus ganz Europa mit dabei waren. Mein erster Heat war ziemlich gut, doch die Wellen waren sehr klein und nach zwei Stunden Stand by hat man mir gesagt, dass ich im  Semifinale am nächsten Tag dabei sein werde.

Tags darauf waren die Wellen dann auch besser und der Wind beruhigte sich. Beste Bedingungen also für ein paar coole Heats. Im Semifinale waren dann sehr gute Surfer am Start, doch ich hatte gleich zu Beginn eine gute Welle, die mir den Einzug ins Finale bescherte.

Im Finale hatte ich dann gleich eine gute Welle auf der ich mit einem radikalen Backsideturn fette Punkte holen konnte, doch für den Sieg benötigte ich eine zweite gute Welle. Und die kam: mir gelang ein schöner Cutback gefolgt von einem Frontside Reverse und ich holte mir den Pokal.

Dieser Sieg bedeutet mir extrem viel denn es war meine bisher beste Performance. Und auch der Preis war extrem cool. Ich bekam ein neues Board und so nebenbei noch 800 Euro!!!

Last weekend I participated in the first edition of the Rip Curl Grom Search in Capbreton, which featured a mix of the best regional kids and the best riders from all over the world. There are a number of Rip Curl Grom Searchs this year and the winner of the tour is qualified to compete in the European finals. Whoever wins those is allowed to surf in the international finals, which are taking place at the ASP World Tour in Bells Beach.

After a really good first heat (which I won) I moved on to the quarter finals where I had to compete against three friends of mine. The waves weren’t that great and unfortunately, rather small. After two better waves I was in first place, but ten minutes towards the end I dropped into a wave of a competitor and was fined by the judges. Because of that, my best wave was divided by two, which meant that I wasn’t able to score anything better than the third place. After that, there were no more good waves and I couldn’t qualify myself for the next heat.
But depite everything I am very happy to have made it into the quarterfinals and hopefully I will do better the next time.

Letztes Wochenende nahm ich an der ersten Ausgabe der Rip Curl Grom Search in Capbreton teil. Die besten Kids aus der Region (-16) waren am Start gemixt mit Ridern aus der ganzen Welt. Es gibt mehrere Rip Curl Grom Searchs in diesem Jahr, der Gewiner dieser Tour qualifiziert sich dann für das Europe-Final und wer dort den Sieg davon trägt, darf zum internationalen Finale das im Zuge ASP World Tour in Bells Beach ausgetragen wird.
Nach einem ziemlich guten ersten Heat (den ich gewann), kam ich dann ins Viertelfinale wo ich gegen drei gute Freunde von mir gesurft bin. Die Wellen waren dann nicht besonders gut und ziemlich klein. Nach zwei guten Wellen war ich in erster Position, doch 10 Minuten bevor der Heat zu Ende war dropte ich einem meiner Konkurrenten in die Welle und ich wurde von den Judges bestraft. Dadurch wurde meine beste Welle durch 2 dividiert und ich kam über den dritten Platz nicht mehr hinaus. Leider gab es danach keine guten Wellen mehr für mich und ich  konnte mich nicht für den nächsten Heat qualifizieren.
Trotzdem bin ich ziemlich froh es ins Viertelfinale geschafft zu haben und hoffe das ich es nächstes mal weiter schaffe.

Ich werde mein Bestes geben!

On the first stage of the Crevettes Tour, Blue Tomato Teamrider Jonas Bachan surfed straight into the semifinals and was able to score some first important points for the overall ranking. Last week’s second stage went even better when Jonas fought his way through the highest waves into the final.

The final heat took 25 minutes and after two very good waves Jonas scored the second place and a lot more points for the ranking and the qualification of the Championnats d’Aquitaine, (which he won in 2012) as well as for the French State Championships.

Well done, Jonas!

Jonas also adorns the official tour poster of the Crevettes Tour 2013 – with a cutback and a “crevette head”.

Bei der ersten Etappe der Crevettes Tour in Soustons ist Blue Tomato Teamrider Jonas Bachan bis ins Semifinale gesurft und konnte somit die ersten wichtigen Punkte  für die Gesamtwertung sammeln.
Vergangenes Wochenende war der 2. Tour-Stop in Capbreton und in weit überkopf hohen Wellen konnte sich JB bis ins Finale durchkämpfen.

Der Final Heat dauerte 25 Minuten und nach zwei sehr gut bewerteten Wellen sicherte sich Jonas den 2. Platz und damit erneut wichtige Punkte für die Overallwertung und die Qualifikation für die Championnats d’Aquitaine (die er letztes Jahr gewinnen konnte) bzw. die französischen Staatsmeisterschaften.

Well done Jonas!

Jonas schmückt übrigens mit einem Cutback und einem “Crevettes Kopf” das offizielle Tourposter der Crevettes Tour 2013.

Hallo zusammen!

Ich bin vor zwei Wochen mit einem Trainingslager in San Remo, Italien, in die neue Saison gestartet. Nach meinem Teamwechsel von Alpine Commencal zu RRP Ghost (revolution-racing-project.com), wollte ich unbedingt mein neues Bike ausprobieren.

Bei mildem Wetter und auf tollen Strecken mit Shuttleservice, war ich sehr positiv von meinem neuen Bike überrascht: Das neue Ghost Bike hat ein super Handling und ich komme richtig gut damit zurecht.
Nach nur einigen Tagen auf dem neuen Bike, fühlte ich mich schon so sicher, dass ich es richtig laufen lassen konnte.

Leider stürzte ich gegen Ende der ersten Trainingswoche schwer. Schmerzen hatte ich keine starken, nur der kleine Finger der linken Hand schwoll trotz ständiger Kühlung bis zum Abend hin richtig an. Also beschloss ich nach Hause zu fahren und meinen Finger dort röntgen zu lassen. Ich hatte mit nichts Schlimmeren gerechnet und geplant gleich danach wieder nach San Remo zurück zu fahren. Jedoch stellte sich heraus, dass der Mittelknochen des kleinen Fingers bis ins Gelenk abgesplittert war. Das musste verschraubt werden!

Nun trage ich einen Spaltgips, darf aber Beine und Rumpf trainieren.
Sobald ich wieder auf dem Bike sitze, melde ich mich zurück.

Volle Motivation – Sonne – gute Laune – super Commencal Bike – anspruchsvolle Strecken –

Shutteln mit Roberto – Regen/Schnee – optimale Bedingungen – Teamgeist – Zeitläufe –

So fand in Italien mein erstes Downhill-Trainingslager dieser Saison mit meinem Team statt.

Für mich war es eine sehr gute Gelegenheit mein Bike zu testen und das Fahrwerk optimal abzustimmen. In puncto Reifen wurde das Tubeless zum ersten Mal getestet und  es stellte sich heraus, dass ich weniger Reifendefekte auf der sehr steinigen Strecke hatte.

Natürlich machte ich auch einige Zeitläufe und was besonders effizient war, ich konnte mich auch mit anderen Worldcup-Ridern, die auch auf dieser Strecke trainierten, messen!

Zwischendurch konnte ich auch optimal Freeriden und meine Kondition dadurch noch verbessern. Gut vorbereitet werde ich heuer die World-Cups,  alle iXs-Cups und natürlich die heimischen DH-Cups bestreiten und mein Bestes geben!!

Drückt mir die Daumen, vielleicht sehen wir uns bei den diversen Rennen 2013!

Start of the season 2013 – intensive training in San Remo 2.-15.3.2013

Full of motivation – sun – good mood – super Commencal Bike – ambitious tracks - shuttlen with Roberto – rain/snow  – very good conditions – team spirit – time runs

I had my first Downhill -  Trainingscamp in Italy with my team this season. It was a very good opportunity for me to test my bike and the suspension. It was the first time that I drove my wheels tubeless and it was great, I had a lot less defects on the stony track.

The time runs were very efficient too, because I could compare myself to other WorldcupRiders who were training here. From time to time I was freeriding to improve my condition.

This season I will start at all World Cups, iXS-Cups and of course at alle DH-Cups in Austria.

I´m well prepared so keep your fingers crossed for me. Hope to see you at the races 2013!

The Burton 13 Premiere in Blue Tomato Shop Wien was off the chain!

The 15th September saw the Premiere of the awesome new Burton film, ’13′, in the  Blue Tomato Shop in Vienna!

To celebrate the occasion, we held an Urban Snowboard Straightbox session right out side the shop! And boy did you guys throw down!

And for those more technically inclined, there was the binding mounting comp, where you could show off your talents with a screwdriver!

On top of all that, the Leberkase semmeln went down a treat, as, of course did the sweet Burton Goodies that were up for grabs!

We had a great time, the film was awesome, and you guys brought one hell of an atmosphere!

Shiny day, motivated riders, great sessions! It was time again for a big Blue Tomato team shooting!

The weather is beautiful, the sun is burning down, but the lovely Dachstein always keeps everybody cool for beeing active for some spring freeskiing!
So the choice was made to go for a huge one and invited the great Blue Tomato family of team riders.

Of the Blue Tomato freeski team Luca Tribondeau, Martin Hauck, Daniel Walchhofer, Stefanie De Menech, and Josh Absenger were in on it.

Have you ever wanted to skate in your own living room?
Does your window ledge, the wall and the cozy tiled stove appeal like super cool skate obstacles?

Blue Tomato team rider Philipp Schuster, for one, could imagine it and proceeded to action.
So he grabbed some skate friends to clear out the house and to reform it to a sick skate pool living room. Awesome job!

On the past weekend, the QParks Tour Finals went down on the Dachstein Glacier! Both Freeskiers and Snowboarders had to fight not only each other, but also the bad weather conditions. Because of wind, rain and fog, the planned slopestyle contest on the Pro Kickerline couldn’t be held, so the guys from QParks decided to move it to the Pro Railline instead. Our Teamriders brought home FOUR places on the podium! Congratulations to Roli Scharmer‘s first place and Flo Galler‘s second place in the Snowboard Men category! For the skiers, Martin Hauck and Daniel Walchhofer were successful in the Men and Rookie category and claimed a third place each!

And because the Horsefeathers Rock the Top was the Final of the QParks Tour, the Overall winners were crowned, too! Huge congratulations go out to Flo Galler for winning the Overall title Snowboard Men! Martin Hauck just missed the top spot and got second in the Freeski Men, just like Daniel Walchhofer did in the Rookie Overall Ranking, big congratulations to both of you, anyway!

Roli Scharmer (4th), Viktor Szigeti (5th), Georgi Mihaylov (9th) and Dominik Wagner (18th) also placed well in the Snowboard Men Overall ranking, so did Max (8th) and Tobi (15th) Grünwald in the Rookie and Lisa Veith (5th) in the Girls Overall ranking. Alex Moser secured a 7th place in the Freeski Men and Stefanie De Menech the 11th place in the Freeski Girls Overall ranking.

Congratulations again to all our Teamriders and we are already looking forward to next years QParks Snowboard and Freeski Tour!

Spring is everywhere! In late april, most lifts had already closed down. But a small group of snowboard-enthusiasts couldn’t resist to use the snow that still covered most of the mountains. Supported by Blue Tomato, they hosted a spring session right below the parking lot of the Dachstein glacier at “Eagle Mountain” with a Live DJ, BBQ, Beer and of course lots of shredding! They built a kicker, a corner and two raillines and there were filmers and photographers to capture the madness that was going on.
A lot of Blue Tomato Teamriders were involved, Flo Galler, Paz Gruber, Roli Scharmer, Franki Wörndl, Vanessa Waldenhofer and lots of friends shredded every obstacle in sight! Continue reading 'Eagle Mountain spring session'»
