In Austria, five actual stores add to the customers’ online shopping experience and choice. Now we moved across the border into Germany! On Monday, 5 November, three stores opened their doors in Bavaria, in the Southern part of the country: two shops are based in Munich, home to a huge boardsports community, and another store opened in Rosenheim.

Gerfried Schuller, founder of Blue Tomato, is stoked on going international: “All three new Blue Tomato Shops are located in really good business areas. We are looking forward to providing our new customers with the biggest selection of boardsports and freeski brands in Bavaria and offering them the much respected Blue Tomato service.”
Snowboarders, skaters and freeskiers in the area probably already know the locations of the new shops as former facilities of the legendary Goodstuff store. “I wanted to retire from the retail business and was looking for someone to take over the stores”, says Stephan Schächtl, founder and owner of the Goodstuff GmbH. “With Blue Tomato I found a successor that lived up to the two most important criteria: Blue Tomato really embodies the boardsports spirit and takes on all employees. Even our store brand Goodstuff which involves apparel and skate equipment will be continued.”
Like other Blue Tomato shops, the new stores will keep their individual character while getting the local customers involved: We will closely work together with the local community and listen to their suggestions and needs.
All three shops have already opened their doors and on Saturday, 17 November, we invite everybody to join the official opening party! Snacks, competitions, an indoor miniramp and much more will be waiting for you at the Isartor store in Munich. The entire Blue Tomato team will be there to welcome you from 12 p.m. on!

The Burton 13 Premiere in Blue Tomato Shop Wien was off the chain!

The 15th September saw the Premiere of the awesome new Burton film, ’13′, in the  Blue Tomato Shop in Vienna!

To celebrate the occasion, we held an Urban Snowboard Straightbox session right out side the shop! And boy did you guys throw down!

And for those more technically inclined, there was the binding mounting comp, where you could show off your talents with a screwdriver!

On top of all that, the Leberkase semmeln went down a treat, as, of course did the sweet Burton Goodies that were up for grabs!

We had a great time, the film was awesome, and you guys brought one hell of an atmosphere!

Our teamrider Villa Uotila enjoyed his holidays in Finland in  a meaningful way – with training

Here you can a read a small summer update from him:
“Hopefully the summer is rolling well for everybody. I spend my summer just in Finland this year but it’s been worth it for sure. Always nice to spend some time at home after a long season. I have been pretty busy a whole summer. Mostly I have been training my ass off this summer. We’ve got the privat physiotherapist for the finnish national team so it has been helping a lot.  Beside of training there’s of course a lot of other sport I love to do like tennis, paddle tennis, cycling, trampoline, etc..  Yeah, and of course there has been a bunch of nice partys like Summer Sound festival. It was the largest electronic music festival in northern Europe. Goood times!!
There’s just a month left and then I’m back in business on the mountain. It’s just crazy how fast the whole summer went but actually I’m ready to go already.”

A few weeks ago, the last days of the season in the Horsefeathers Superpark Dachstein were already in sight. But we knew: it was time again for a big Blue Tomato team shooting!

Beautiful weather, the sun is burning down but our lovely Dachstein always keeps us cool for beeing active for some beloved spring snowboard sessions!

So we decided to go for a huge one and invited our great Blue Tomato Snowboard family of team riders.

The following team members arrived: Ville Uotila, Dominik Wagner, Flo Galler, Rudi Janda,  Georgi Mihaylov, Clemens Schattschneider, Mathias Weißenbacher, Anna Gasser, Paz Gruber, Clemens Millauer, Roli Scharmer, Franki Wörndl and Vanessa Waldenhofer.

We of course invited a photographer, Severin Wegener, to join us on the mountain and capture some of the shown action:

Starting the week with an own summer shooting project sounds exciting!

That was the 3 days plan for us 7 interns, Bijan, Wolfi, Meike, Chris, Flo, Franzi and Sarah (clockwise from the top). So we packed our bags and hit the road from our office in Schladming to the nice university town of Graz.

Leaving in heavy downpour we arrived again in beautiful rainy weather at the Blue Tomato logistics in Graz after a long, but cozy bus trip including nutritious beakfast breaks at McDonalds – of course.

After a short guided tour through the logistics of Graz we finally got down to work: considering our project story, collecting summer outfits for the shooting, checking models and locations, arranging a timetable… We had some hot discussions while the first meeting and thus we were even more excited about the upcoming shooting Tuesday.

Tuesday morning. Departure, a short stop for buying provisions, then straight to the first location – the amazing university of Graz!

Happy about our well-ordered and harmonizing team, the sudden approaching friendly summer weather and the characteristic college location, we finished our shooting after two short hours and could head for the next spot.

We were planning to shoot at the platform of the nice mur isle but we spontaneously changed our decision for another hot spot:

A great beach bar with a corresponding fresh and easy beach feeling – in this situation the better choice!

We were blown away from the results. Everything was going so well that we still had enough time discovering the lovely downtown with its numerous bars, the obvious frozen-yoghurt trend, delicious and opulent food, as well as the old tower called “Urturm” on top of the castle mountain with great view over the city!

Das Finalrennen der Übersee-Rennen fand letztes Wochenende in Windham statt, wo auch unsere Blue Tomato Teamfahrer Markus Pekoll, Boris Tetzlaff, Petra Bernhard und Mathias Haas ihr Können bewiesen.

Schon beim Seeding-Run schaffte es Markus auf den 20ten Platz – mit nur einer Sekunde Rückstand auf den 10. und 2,5 Sekunden Rückstand auf die Top 3!

Voller Motivation und großen Erwartungen ging es für Markus am Sonntag an den Start.

Doch schon nach der zweiten Kurve manövierte er gegen einen großen Stein, verlor die Kontrolle über sein Bike und stürzte zu Boden. Dadurch verlor er viel an Zeit, da der Sturz kurz vor einer Tretpassage passierte. Platz 55 hieß es in der Zwischenzeit.

Im weiteren Verlauf des Rennens lief es aber immer besser, sodass er sich immerhin noch den 24.Platz insgesamt erkämpfen konnte.

Markus’ Leistungen der letzten Rennen hatten auch positiven Einfluss auf die Weltcup Gesamtergebnisse. Von Rang 68 konnte er sich auf den 37.Rang verbessern und nimmt auf der Weltrangliste momentan einen Top 20 Platz ein!

Da kann man nur noch sagen: Gratulation & Keep going, Markus!

Auch Teamfahrerin Petra Bernhard durfte sich über ein gutes Resultat am Windham Race freuen. Sie konnte sich am Sonntag auf Rang 9 einreihen und glücklich über ihren Run zurück blicken.

Mathias verpasste bedauerlicherweise aufgrund eines Sturzes und dem daraus enstandenen verzogenen Vorderrad die Qualifikation. Und auch Boris hatte mit einem Crash bei der Quali kurz vor dem Ziel zu kämpfen. Er fuhr jedoch letzten Endes am Sonntag beim Finalrennen einen soliden 63. Platz mit einer Zeit von 4.35.66 ein.

Nextes Ziel für alle: Die ÖM ! Bike for it!

Gemütlicher Hinflug in der Business Class, eine griffige Rennstrecke mit großem Highspeedfokus und ein ehrenwürdiger Abschluss der Reise mit Adrenalinkick von einem 13m hohen Cliff …

Blue Tomato Teamfahrer Petra Bernhard und Mathias Haas erzählen vom vierten Worldcuprennen aus Mt. Saint Anne/ Kanada.

Hallo zusammen!

Mathias und ich befinden uns gerade in Kanada, ganz genau in Mt. Saint Anne zum 4. Worldcuprennen.

Die Anreise war diesmal mehr als genial! Die Lufthansa setzte uns wegen Überfüllung der Economy Class in die Business Class. Mal Glück gehabt nach all unseren Strapazen in  der letzten Zeit. Christian, Vincent, Boris und Mani waren mit uns mit und all unser Gepäck kam gut in Montreal an. Mit dem Leihvan fuhren wir ca. 5 h nach Mt Saint Anne / Quebec.

Die Strecke wurde im oberen Teil gewaltig verändert, dort wo sonst eine ca 700m lange Passage mit nur Anliegern war – wurde heuer großer Wert auf Highspeed gelegt. Eine ca 700m lange Wiesengerade war kurz nach dem Start mit versteckten Steinen und Schlägen zu bespickt, jedoch nicht nur in der oberen Hälfte der Stecke sondern bis ins Ziel war die Felgenzerstörung bzw die Patschengefahr so hoch wie noch nie. Mathias fuhr sogar mit doppelten Schläuchen um das Risiko zu minimieren.

Danach ging es in die altbekannte Strecke mit langen Steinpassagen im Wald. Genau unter der Gondel befanden sich weite Sprünge und eine weitere Highspeed Passage. Die Zeiten waren bei den Herrn knapp über 4min, also eher auf der längeren Seite.

Der erste Trainingstag war super staubig. die Strecke war ziemlich rutschig. aber nicht vom Regen, sondern von der extrem Trockenheit. Am Samstag regnete es aber doch und der Boden war am Finaltag am Sonntag sehr griffig und gut zu fahren.

Ich versuchte das erste mal mein Glück mit SPD, da ich in Schladming 4 Tage lang damit trainierte und sehr gut zurecht kam. Das Resultat: 10. in der Quali. Mathias schaffte die Quali ganz knapp nicht. Der Jetlag plagte ihn. 3 Sekunden zu langsam. Jedoch konnte er die ganzen Technik Passagen hervorragend ohne Fehler meistern – meinte er zu mir nach dem Rennen, aber die “Moach” ist ihm leider ausgegangen.

Am Samstag strich ich das 2 h Training, um am Sonntag dann fit zu sein.

Ich beschloss nach dem Regen wieder mit Flats zu fahren – wollte nix riskieren – da ich noch nicht 100% vertraut bin mit den Spds.

Wieder konnte ich nur den soliden 10.Platz einfahren und war ich letzte von 3 in einer Sekunde. Ich ärgerte mich. aber leider mache ich zur Zeit einfach zu viele kleine Fehler.

Mathias holte sich noch einen anderen Adrenalinkick beim Cliffdiving und sprang von einer 13m hohen Felswand mit Wasserfall ins Wasser – Schaut euch die Bilder an

Unter der Woche fahren wir jetzt 2 Tage nach New York, da es am Weg zum weiteren Worldcup nach Windham liegt.

Our rookie Tobi Grünwald is already in Jetset-mode – he just came back from “visiting school in Brazil”.

Well, that’s what he told his mom, in reality, he was just there for the countless possibilities to skate – and some other fun activity like playing paintball :

After a long journey with striking airlines and severe security checks, he arrived at his guest family in Vinhedo and immediately found new friends: the two dogs of the family! It seems not too bad over there, after defeating his jetlag, he already took advantage of the pool (this time one with water in it, so no skating yet) and washed the dogs (not in the pool).

Getting up at six in the morning is easy when your body thinks it’s almost lunchtime. Putting on a school uniform isn’t too bad either, if it looks as cool as this one:

Only negative points so far: Annoying mosquitoes and no skating in school.

The mosquitoes stayed, but the “no skating in school” vanished quickly:

Getting to some brand new skate parks and to rock the Brasilian obstacles are great things you propably won’t see in Europe – but in Brazil!

The impressive skate park in Sao Bernado was a real highlight. Tobi especially liked it because of the almost four and a half meters high vert ramp. An amazing place to go for a good skate!

Gestohlene Bikes, ein zaghaftes Rennen und dennoch eine einzigartige Stimmung.

Unsere Blue Tomato Downhill Teamfahrer Petra Bernhard und Mathias Haas hatten eine extrem aufregende Zeit am Worldcup #3 in Fort Willian (GBR) und am IXS Cup am Brenner in Innsbruck.

Lest selbst, was Petra alles erlebt hat:

Hallo zusammen!

Nach einem super tollen Wochenende Worldcup in Val di Sole erlebten Mathias und ich diesmal eines der schlimmsten Rennwochenenden ever – direkt und indirekt!

Mathias beschloss mit unserem Freund Jordi aus Barcelona das IXS Rennen am Brenner zu fahren und ich war in Fort William/Schottland beim 3. Worldcup am Start.

Das Material wurde dafür gleich von Italien nach Schottland transportiert.

 Am Samstag früh dann die erschreckende Botschaft, mein Bus wurde am Brenner vor dem Hotel aufgebrochen und die DH Bikes von Mathias und Jordi rausgestohlen.
 Das hintere Schloss am Bus wurde mit einem Spezialwerkzeug aufgebrochen. Man bemerkte von außen nichts, aber die Bikes waren weg. Mein CC Bike ließen sie sogar drinnen.
Die immer heißbegehrten Monsterkappen von Mathias oder die neuen Laufräder oder Reifen wurden auch nicht angerührt, nur die 2 DH-Bikes fehlten.

Am Qualitag konnte ich keinen klaren Gedanken in Fort William finden, schaffte es aber noch als 9.te ins ziel.

Leider ging dann am Renntag alles schief. Ich bekam das Warm-up recht gut hin und fühlte mich gut am start.
Im Waldstück stürzte ich dann 2 mal und somit war mein Rennen quasi gelaufen.
Die Bilanz:
 Kettenführung zerstört, Pedal gebrochen, Lenker verbogen. Das Helmschild  war so fest nach unten geklappt, dass ichs in meinem Stress gar nicht nach oben bekam. Ich lief zu meinem Bike, die Zuschauer feuerten mich extrem gut an.

Die Stimmung ist jedoch einfach immer der Wahnsinn in Fort Bill. Leider konnte ich es nicht genießen.

Ich wurde letztendlich 19. Oh, mein Gott! Aber die 25.000 Zuseher “trugen” mich auf Händen ins Ziel. Die Stimmung war wirklich genial. Ich kann mich an meine ersten Worldcups erinnern, wo ich mich über
einen top 20 Platz freute. Am Sonntag rutschte mir das Herz in die Hose. aber so ist der Sport.

Es Kann Nur Besser Werden!

Mathias teilte sich das Bike mit unserem Teamkollegen Flo Wilhelm. Er wurde am Samstag in der quali 9. – mit nur 3 trainingsläufen bei ca 500 startern. Am Renntag wurde er 22.

Dieses Wochenende trainieren wir in Schladming für die Staatsmeisterschaft in einem Monat.
Nächsten Dienstag fliegen wir nach Amerika und kämpfen uns wieder zurück an die Weltspitze!
