Interns in shoot mood – Behind the scenes! (english version)

By , 11.07.2012 14:28

Starting the week with an own summer shooting project sounds exciting!

That was the 3 days plan for us 7 interns, Bijan, Wolfi, Meike, Chris, Flo, Franzi and Sarah (clockwise from the top). So we packed our bags and hit the road from our office in Schladming to the nice university town of Graz.

Leaving in heavy downpour we arrived again in beautiful rainy weather at the Blue Tomato logistics in Graz after a long, but cozy bus trip including nutritious beakfast breaks at McDonalds – of course.

After a short guided tour through the logistics of Graz we finally got down to work: considering our project story, collecting summer outfits for the shooting, checking models and locations, arranging a timetable… We had some hot discussions while the first meeting and thus we were even more excited about the upcoming shooting Tuesday.

Tuesday morning. Departure, a short stop for buying provisions, then straight to the first location – the amazing university of Graz!

Happy about our well-ordered and harmonizing team, the sudden approaching friendly summer weather and the characteristic college location, we finished our shooting after two short hours and could head for the next spot.

We were planning to shoot at the platform of the nice mur isle but we spontaneously changed our decision for another hot spot:

A great beach bar with a corresponding fresh and easy beach feeling – in this situation the better choice!

We were blown away from the results. Everything was going so well that we still had enough time discovering the lovely downtown with its numerous bars, the obvious frozen-yoghurt trend, delicious and opulent food, as well as the old tower called “Urturm” on top of the castle mountain with great view over the city!

Check out our making-of and get into shoot mood! ;)

Interns in shoot mood – Behind the scenes!

Seht selbst unser Making Of und kommt in Shoot Mood! ;)

No Guys allowed! It’s about Girls…

By , 07.02.2012 17:30

Girls are sometimes facing a tough job in the snowboarding scene, but nevertheless they keep on going and love what they do: shredding the mountain and just having a good time with friends. We have exclusively interviewed our five female Blue Tomato team riders. Find out what they think about girls riding!

How did you spend your last season?

I had planned to be filming all winter, but I hurt my ankle on the first shooting day of the season and I got stuck in Europe with no snow. That’s when I got a wildcard for the Freeride World Tour in Chamonix and won. After that event I ended up competing on the whole tour. I wanted to film in between the contests but I got hurt again. So at the end it’s been a full on competing winter. Quite different for me as I hadn’t competed for a very long time, but hey, a World Champ’s Title looks always good on a CV! :)

What do you think about the progression of girls snowboarding in the last few years?

The level has improved big time! When I started most of the girls you had seen in the ads just look nice and turn a 360. Nowadays girls are ripping with all 720, 900 and double corks…hell yeah ! But I wish it was growing faster and better! Especially in Europe with still very unequal prize money on the freeride competitions and still no girls in all the main city events, like Air and Style and Freestyle CH etc..

Have you ever had a part in a snowboard video?

Yes, I had some in the Psykopit movies at the time and in the Burton videos too. My favorite part was the one in Roshambo. It was the opening part of the movie and really the only year I’ve had a real film crew all winter with me and no injuries. Before and after that I had a couple of shots at trips with Thermos, Anomaly TGR, The Community Project, the Uniquely movie etc..

Do you think girl movies can inspire other girls to put together a crew to show off their riding and start filming?

Of course and that’s what we need! That’s also how all the main “guys film crews” started filming their friends. I think that’s the best way to find motivation, push each other and find sponsors. Projects like Lipstick Production are essential and they will motivate the younger girls to go out and shred!

What are the reasons that girls snowboarding hasn’t received as much attention as guys snowboarding?

Women’s snowboarding is about 10 years behind men riding. Of course, it’s just not as interesting if a girl lands a 7 while a guy pulls off a double cork or something similar. But I think that womens riding is getting a lot more attention these days, especially from the girls side.

Why do girls need women’s-specific snowboard gear?

Our anatomy is different. That means, girls need lighter and softer boards because we aren´t as strong as guys.

What’s your favorite girls brand and why?

Definitely Elan. Out of all the boards I have tested, the boards by Elan are the best. They’re really light, which makes them easier to control.

Lisi Gram beim Eurocup in Saas Fee

Lisi

Mathias Weißenbacher won the 4 Star TTR Nissan Stomp It

By , 02.11.2011 14:17

Blue Tomato Team Rider Mathias Weißenbacher about his season start and his win at the 4 Star TTR Nissan Stomp It!

It was a pretty good weekend for me ! After I missed the finals  of the  Worldcup in London , because I ended in 9th place in the Qualis and just 6 went through, I packed all my stuff and went on the same day to Italy-Modena for the 4 Star TTR Nissan Stomp it !

The Jump in Italy was pretty scatchy so I tried to do my best. It was a Corner-jump but everyone just went over it so it was kind of like a normal Jump with a really soft and scatchy 5 meter landing :)
In the Qualification I did a BS 720 mute – ended in 10th place and 16th went through !

In the finals we had 3 runs – best counts ! I was thinking about to do a BS 1080 mute grab as my first trick in the finals – The takeoff and  In-run got soft really fast, so I thought it would be better to do it in the first run cause that was the only way to get enough speed for this trick!

So I did it and I pretty much overshoot the whole landing– BUT  I landed my BS 1080 mute and I got really good points for it !! At the end I won the 4 Star TTR NISSAN STOMP IT in
Italy and I’m really stoked about it !! Wooop!

I think for me it was the best thing to start my season and I’m really looking forward to it :) Hopefully a video and some pictures are coming soon :)

see ya soon

cheers matt

This summer I had the opportunity to go to Oregon and ride four sessions in the Windells Summer Snowboardcamp.

It was one of my best summers so far. I had so much fun and got to know so many amazing people. The weather wasn’t as good as we all have been hoping for, but we made the best out of it! :)

Now I’m in Hintertux till the end of October to get ready for the new season. Can’t wait to see u guys out on the hill!
